Bad Bunny will guest star in the third season of Netflix series Narcos: Mexico

Rapper Bad Bunny will be a guest star in the third season of Netflix series Narcos: Mexico.

The 26-year-old will play a character named Arturo ‘Kitty’ Paez, according to the streamer.

Paez is affiliated with the Narco Juniors gang, composed of ‘rich, well connected kids from upper society who fell in with the cartel life for the money, drugs, and violence.’

The Puerto Rico-born musical artist told Rolling Stone in May that he had already commenced with production on the set of the series until it came to a halt amid the coronavirus outbreak this past March.

Alfonso Dosal, Alejandro Edda, Mayra Hermosillo, Gorka Lasaosa, Matt Letscher, Manuel Masalva, Scoot McNairy, José María Yázpik return to the show’s third season, which will also include the show debuts of Luis Gerardo Méndez, Alberto Guerra, and Luisa Rubino.

According to Netflix, the story will take place in the 1990s and focus on changing drug trade amid newfound globalization.

‘As newly independent cartels struggle to survive political upheaval and escalating violence, a new generation of Mexican kingpins emerge,’ the streamer said. ‘But in this war, truth is the first casualty – and every arrest, murder, and take-down only pushes real victory further away.’

It was not immediately clear when the season will drop on the streamer.

The Dakiti artist, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has had an active year musically, putting out the record YHLQMDLG and the compilation album Las Que No Iban a Salir.

‘Right now, I am in the happiest moment of my career, because I am making all of my dreams come true,’ he told Rolling Stone in May. ‘There is no better feeling than when you can say, “Wow, I am doing it right.”‘

Last month, the streamer announced that Narcos: Mexico was renewed for season three and that Carlo Bernard would take over at showrunner for Eric Newman, who remains busy with multiple other projects for Netflix.

‘I am grateful for my five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, and immensely proud of what this spectacular team has achieved with these shows,’ Newman told The Hollywood Reporter late last month. ‘When we began this endeavor – making a show in two languages, in a country that had never seen this kind of production – it seemed insane. But Netflix saw its potential then and their faith in us never wavered. 

‘Carlo Bernard is the first person I ever spoke to about this project, over 10 years ago, and I am extremely pleased to leave the steering of season three of Narcos: Mexico in his extremely capable hands.’
