Boris Johnson’s fiancée Carrie Symonds cuts an elegant figure at the Commonwealth service

Boris Johnson’s fiancée Carrie Symonds was a vision in blue today as she stepped out for the Commonwealth Service.

Carrie, 31, cut an elegant figure as she arrived alongside the Prime Minister at Westminster Abbey, marking the first time she has attended an official public event with Boris since the couple’s shock announcement that they are expecting a baby in the early summer.

Carrie looked stylish in a chic blue £475 Isabelle Fox coat made from ethical wool, which she previously wore for the Conservative Party Conference in September.

The expectant mother, who announced her pregnancy last weekend, donned a navy gown with gold polka dots beneath the coat, and added navy accessories.

Carrie wore her hair in a soft wave for the occasion, and kept her makeup chic and simple for the event.

The First Girlfriend selected a navy polka dot gown with a high thigh-slit and a ruffled neckline for the event.

She opted for simplistic silver jewellery, including a sophisticated pair of silver hoops.

Meanwhile Boris complemented his fiance’s outfit perfectly with a baby blue tie and navy suit.

Carrie’s chic £475 woollen belted coat – created by up-and-coming British designer Isabelle Fox – is called The Amelia after Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932.

Carrie’s choice is yet another example of the so-called First Girlfriend shunning fast fashion for more ethical pieces. Made from English wool, The Amelia contains no microplastics or polyester.

She perfectly complemented her light blue frock with her engagement ring, a square emerald surrounded by petal shaped diamonds.

The square emerald jewel surrounded by petal shaped diamonds is estimated to have cost between £25,000 and £30,000.

Today marks the first occasion that Carrie and Boris have appeared at an official  public engagement together since announcing their engagement.

They announced last weekend that they were engaged and expecting a baby in the ‘early summer’, with Carrie telling her followers on Instagram she felt ‘incredibly blessed’.

Carrie shared an intimate photo of her and Mr Johnson, 55, last Saturday with the caption: ‘I wouldn’t normally post this kind of thing on here but I wanted my friends to find out from me.’

She said she and Mr Johnson, 55, got engaged at the end of last year ‘and we’ve got a baby hatching early summer’.

The date of their wedding has not been announced, but it will mark the first time in at least 250 years a sitting prime minister has married while in office.

With her headpieces and her cool maxi dresses, Carrie has become an unexpected fashion icon for some over the past six months.

The daughter of Matthew Symonds, co-founder of the Independent, Carrie now works in PR for Oceana, an organisation which campaigns for policies to protect and restore the world’s oceans.

The couple met when Carrie worked on his successful bid for a second term as London Mayor in 2012, but were only linked romantically in 2018, shortly after his split from Miss Wheeler.

They have made very few public appearances, with Carrie often on the sidelines away from the rest of his family.

But the former Conservative Party press officer is believed to have a ‘hands on’ approach behind the scenes, taking credit for her fiance’s new image, weight loss and election success.

The wedding will be Mr Johnson’s third and he has at least five children already – four with Miss Wheeler and a fifth from an affair with art consultant Helen Macintyre.
