Iggy Azalea says the world ‘loves being hysterical’ about coronavirus

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea angers fans as she says the world ‘loves being hysterical’ about coronavirus… after calling out her own mother Tanya Kelly and ‘white people’ for bulk buying toilet paper

Iggy Azalea has angered fans after she appeared to make a bold statement about coronavirus on Twitter on Thursday.

The controversial Australian rapper claimed the world is ‘being hysterical’ after the outbreak of the disease, which has so far infected 125,777 individuals worldwide and claimed the lives of 4610 people, was officially declared a pandemic this week.

The 29-year-old, real name Amethyst Amelia Kelly, wrote: ‘I think the world loves being hysterical’.

The Fancy hitmaker’s Tweet was met with a mixed response from fans, with most agreeing her platform on social media was too large to be making such grand statements about the global crisis.

‘There’s a lot of the elderly, poor and people with compromised immune systems who die of coronavirus. My university is on lockdown,’ one Twitter user angrily wrote.

‘I know you don’t feel affected by the virus because of your age and the money you have, but remind me why do I still stand you woman?’ another raged.

‘Your platform is too big to minimise this. Hush,’ one remarked.

Others pointed out there has been a shift since Hollywood actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson contracted the virus on Thursday, in Iggy’s home country no less.

However, some fans agreed with the Aussie singer.

‘It unites us,’ one fan wrote.

‘WBK [we been knew] queen,’ another said, using popular slang that means ‘we already know this’.

One joked that perhaps Iggy had something to hide, asking: ‘is this your way of telling us you have coronavirus?’

Iggy’s latest Tweet comes after she previously called out the issue of stockpiling toilet paper.

‘White people love to bulk buy for the apocalypse,’ Iggy wrote earlier this month.

‘I’d never been embarrassed to be related to anyone until today when I found out my mother is one of the Australians bulk buying toilet paper,’ she said in another tweet.

Iggy moved to the US when she was 16 to pursue her rapping career, while her family, including mother Tanya Kelly, remained in Australia.
