Cody Simpson looks less than impressed after placing fifth in 50 metre Butterfly Heat at Australian Swimming Championships – after being a no-show the day before
Cody Simpson recently returned to Australia to take part in the Australian National Championships in Southport, Queensland.
However the singer-turned-athlete has had a less than stellar run at the competition – missing the 100 metre butterfly race on Friday, and coming in fifth in the 50 metre heat on Saturday.
The 24-year-old’s disappointment was written all over his face after he left the pool following the race.

With water dripping from his muscular form, Cody appeared unhappy about the result as he waited poolside.
Before the swim, Cody was all smiles as he showed off his newly-buff, athletic physique.
He oozed confidence as he stepped out in a tiny Speedo at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre event.

On Friday, according to News.com.au, the star failed to show up to the competition, which is considered a forerunner to the Olympic trials in Adelaide in June.
Despite being listed to swim in the 100m butterfly, the news site he ‘chose not to compete in the second heat.’
Prior to flying into Gold Coast, Cody and his American girlfriend Marloes Stevens who have been dating since December 2020, completed a mandatory 14-day quarantine in Howard Springs, Darwin.

Once it finished, the singer and his 28-year-old model girlfriend were spotted walking hand-in-hand to a coffee shop in Queensland’s Mermaid Beach.
Earlier this year, Cody revealed to The New York Times what inspired him to jump back into the pool and compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He explained he decided he still had a shot in the pool after seeing American swimmer Caeleb Dressel – who is five months his junior – beat a record set by Michael Phelps in 2019.

‘I stopped drinking that night and started finding pools the next day,’ Cody, who hails from the Gold Coast, said.
Despite having an incredibly successful music career that saw him discovered on YouTube and signed by an American record label in 2010 at the age of 13, his childhood Olympic dreams were bigger.
‘I love the music industry very much, and I’ll continue to be a musician long into my life, but it’s not as pure of a pursuit as sport, which just comes straight down to the clock,’ he told The New York Times.
