An Australian woman has shared how to clean an unlikely section of the vacuum cleaner – the vacuum hose.

Mum Faith prompted others to detach and wash the vacuum hose to remove the filth lurking inside.

An image of the hose soaking in a bathtub showed how dirty the nozzle can become over time.

‘Remember to clean your vacuum hoses, guys,’ she wrote and posted the image the Mums Who Clean Facebook group.

‘This made me feel so sick when I soaked it.’ 

Australian mum Faith prompted others to detach and wash the vacuum hose to remove the filth lurking inside 

According to experts, a dirty vacuum hose can impact the suction of the household product and an odour may form.

To clean the hose, first detach it from the vacuum (referring to the product’s instruction manual if needed).

Remove any visible clumps and debris then rinse in the bath before soaking in warm water.

If there’s any stubborn grime, use as bottle cleaning brush to clean inside the hose.

Allow the hose to soak in the bath for 30 minutes before leaving it to dry thoroughly.   

Others part of the online community were shocked at the insight and felt urged to clean their vacuum hose straightaway.

‘OMG I’ve never done mine, I hate to think what’s in there,’ one woman wrote.

‘Doing this tomorrow,’ another said. 

How to clean the vacuum hose:  

1. Detach the hose

2. Unclog and remove clumps

3. Wash the hose out

4. Use a bottle cleaning brush to remove grime

5. Rinse the inside of the hose

6. Leave to soak in the bath for 30 minute s

7. Hang to dry
