A cordon remained at the scene today as forensics officers carried out a search of the property.

The couple’s neighbours have described seeing the injured man being taken away by police in a wheelchair.

Lydia Black, 22, said: ‘I was on my way to work this morning around 9.25am and I saw a lot of commotion in the road.

‘There were several police cars and ambulances.

‘The police brought the man who lives at the address outside in a wheelchair.

‘He had blood all over his face and his arms and torso were wrapped together, probably because he had other injuries.

‘I saw him being put in ambulance and he looked like he was in a lot of pain.

‘It’s just so shocking and upsetting.’
