She will star on-screen alongside Toni Collette, 48, who plays the ship’s commander, Daniel Dae Kim, 52, who plays a biologist, and Shamier Anderson, 29, as the stowaway.

The crew face an impossible problem when they discover the unexpected passenger on board the craft, which is only designed to support three passengers.

Anna described filming on set as ‘incredibly claustrophobic’ as it’s narrow corridors imitated the constriction of a real spacecraft – which was the intention of director Joe Penna, who previously directed the 2018 survival drama Arctic.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the script for her lead role in the space thriller, Anna said: ‘It was so simple and so lean, but totally compelling.’

When asked if she would ever go to Mars if she had the opportunity, Anna replied: ‘Never. Not ever, not in a million years. Never, never, never, never, never, never.

‘I would do a lot of things… I would skydive. I would get a neck tattoo before I’d go to space.’

The Pitch Perfect star is coming off a busy year in 2020, as she returned for her starring voice role as Queen Poppy in the animated sequel Trolls: World Tour.

Earlier this month, Anna was awarded Favorite Voice From an Animated Movie at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards after reviving her performance in the animated DreamWorks sequel.

She said as she accepted the award: ‘Thank you so much! I can’t tell you how much this means to me. I love playing this weird little hot pink optimistic creature so, so much, and this is just so awesome.

‘It makes me so happy every time I get to record a session as Queen Poppy, so it makes me very happy that somebody else likes it too… It’s one of my favorite jobs that I ever had.’

The Portland, Maine native also had an eventful end of 2020, when she realized that her Twitter account was hacked.

At the time, she wrote: ‘Well, the fun thing about getting my Twitter briefly hacked is that people I hadn’t heard from in years reached out to let me know.

‘So, I guess thank you to my hacker for a little anxiety, and for getting me back in touch with my high school friend James. Cheers.’

She also took to Instagram on New Year’s Eve to let her 17.1 million followers know how she felt about the year that was 2020.

‘2020 you have been a nightmare. Grateful to be seeing the back of you, you rotted b***h,’ she joked in the caption of her selfie.
