Intruder weddings on Married At First Sight lead to a ratings boost – as the Nine show reaches more than a million viewers

Channel Nine’s Married At First Sight dominated the 7:30pm time slot on Tuesday, thanks to intruder weddings and more honeymoons.

The show won the night, with 1.026 million metro viewers tuning in to see FIFO worker Chris Jensen, 32, tie the knot with brand manager Jaimie Gardner, 35.

It was the second time this week Married At First Sight reached more than a million people in the five major cities, after the second commitment ceremony topped 1.096 million viewers on Sunday.

Tuesday’s episode was the most-watched show of the night, reports Mumbrella.

Following behind was Channel 10’s The Amazing Race with 480,000 metro viewers and Seven’s Surveillance Oz Dashcam with 287,000.

While Married At First Sight smashed the key advertising demographics, it was not the most-watched program nationally.

This went to Seven News, which was watched by 1.495 million viewers across the metro and regional markets.

Married At First Sight has performed well in 2021, and many viewers have noted the eighth season is an improvement on last year’s.

The 2020 seasons saw multiple cast members leaking stories and setting up paparazzi photos, which resulted in a dip in ratings.

What’s more, Nine has stressed this year’s participants are ‘more genuine’ than some of the brides and grooms from past seasons.

There are at least two couples from the experiment that are still together: Bryce Ruthven and Melissa Lawson, and Belinda Vickers and Patrick Dwyer.
