Meghan Markle: Today host Allison Langdon says Piers Morgan ‘crossed the line’

Today host Allison Langdon says Piers Morgan ‘crossed the line’ when he questioned Meghan Markle’s mental health claims – as she weighs in on his departure from Good Morning Britain

Piers Morgan’s dramatic exit from Good Morning Britain after refusing to apologise for his remarks about Meghan Markle has sparked fierce responses around the world.

And outspoken Today show hosts Allison Langdon and Karl Stefanovic weighed in on Morgan’s headline-making departure on Thursday.

‘We all watch Piers, and there’s something about him that we always expect him to be controversial,’ Langdon, 41, said during a live cross with Nine’s Europe correspondent Carrie-Anne Greenbank.

She continued: ‘We know he’s got beef with Meghan… but the other day when he unleashed, he properly unleashed.’

Langdon insisted Morgan had ‘crossed the line’ when he claimed he didn’t believe a word Markle said about her mental health struggles.

‘You just can’t dismiss though someone coming out and talking about mental health struggles like he did. That’s where he crossed the line,’ she said firmly.

Markle had revealed in her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that she’d felt suicidal and ‘just didn’t want to be alive anymore’ when she was five months pregnant and a working member of the Royal Family.

Morgan, a longtime critic of the Sussexes and editor-at-large of DailyMail.com, made it clear on Good Morning Britain he didn’t believe her, and then doubled down on his position on Twitter.

Stefanovic didn’t disagree with Langdon’s assessment Morgan had ‘crossed the line’, but did suggest ITV would regret letting Piers leave.

‘On his last day, they won the ratings. Go figure,’ she said.

The 55-year-old host had shocked viewers by storming off the set during a heated on-air row with the show’s weather presenter, Alex Beresford.

He stormed out of the studio saying ‘I’m done with this’ after being challenged by Beresford on his position regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

ITV later announced he had quit the hugely popular ITV show, which he co-hosted with Susanna Reid.

An ITV spokesman told MailOnline: ‘Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.’

It is understood Morgan had been asked to apologise for his remarks about Markle, which had been criticised by mental health campaigners, but had declined.

Markle, who apparently ‘ghosted’ Morgan when she began dating Prince Harry, lodged a complaint with ITV over the host’s remarks, saying the would negatively affect other people experiencing depression and contemplating suicide.
