Happy World Book Day! Celebs mark the event with their kids on social media

Celebs in the UK flooded social media with posts to celebrate World Book Day, which has been observed annually since 1995.

Rochelle Humes led the stars helping their kids mark the event this year, with her daughter Alaia-Mai, seven, dressing up as Willy Wonka from the Roald Dahl’s classic novels Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.

Formula One heiress Tamara Ecclestone joined in on the fun from Dubai as her eldest child Sophia, six, channelled her inner mythical creature by taking inspiration from Lucy Rowland’s book There’s No Such Thing As Unicorns.

The former Saturdays singer’s mini-me posed in a purple and gold dress, complete with the chocolate maker’s statement blazer and top hat.

Rochelle, who also shares Valentina Raine, three, and Blake Hampton, four months, with husband Marvin, threw her support behind Alaia-Mai’s cute ensemble as she captioned the photos: ‘Happpyyyyyy World Book Day. Oh you better worrrkkkk it Willy Wonka. #worldbookday.’ (sic)

Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan’s kid Matilda, five, used her name to her advantage by transforming into the main character from the iconic 1988 book.

A proud Helen, 30, who is expecting her third child with fiancé Scott Sinclair, 31, penned: ‘My beautiful angel daughter as Matilda Wormwood.’

A set of books are released for £1 each year, with Tom Fletcher’s There’s a Wolf in Your Book and Luna Loves World Book Day written by Joseph Coelho fronting this year’s line-up. 

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, organisers have been working with education centres to distribute the tokens by printing them at home or showing single-use digital versions to booksellers on a mobile device.
