New game show based on the classic 1980s video game Frogger is set to be filmed in Sydney in May… and producers are looking for contestants

It was one of the most beloved arcade games of the 1980s. 

And now Frogger is set to come to life in the form of a new game show for the US streaming service Peacock. 

According to TV Tonight, production for the new series is set to take place in Sydney in May on a huge purpose-built obstacle course, and producers are currently looking for contestants.

Leaping onto TV: It was one of the most beloved arcade video games of the 1980s, and now, Frogger is set to come to life in the form of a new game show for the US streaming service Peacock

The new game show will see contestants transported into a fantastical Frogger world that features twelve outrageous obstacle courses or ‘crossings’. 

The online application reveals that contestants will face various challenges that will see them ‘dodge treacherous traffic, leap over snapping gators and hop over hungry hippos’ for a cash prize. 

Applicants should be available to film in Australia during May and they must be over 18 years of age.

However, there is one catch – applicants must hold a valid US passport and be legally able to enter and stay in the country. 

The series will be produced by Australia’s Eureka Productions in partnership with Konami Cross Media NY. 

Eureka has also produced the likes of The Voice, Holey Moley and Crikey! It’s the Irwins, which airs on ABC in the U.S.

TV Tonight further reports that 13 hour-long episodes have been ordered and it will feature US expats based in Australia.

At this stage there is no word on whether the series will also air in Australia.  

Developed in 1981, the original arcade game saw players try to guide frogs home by crossing a busy road and navigating a river full of hazards.
