Lorraine Kelly says SHE proposed to husband of 28 years Steve Smith

Lorraine Kelly revealed on Good Morning Britain on Thursday that she was actually the one to propose to her husband Steve Smith. 

During a video link with Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard, the host, 62, was asked about her proposal ahead of Valentine’s Day. 

Lorraine shocked the pair when she told them in was her who popped the question to her now husband.  

Ben said: ‘Andi was telling us that Tower Bridge is one of the most popular spots for people to ask for people’s hands in marriage. How did Stevie ask you to marry him?’

To which Lorraine replied: ‘Do you know what? I think I asked. I think it was me. Isn’t that awful? I can’t really remember it.

‘But I’m sure I was sitting one night and I said, “Do you know what? I think we should”. It was one of those.’

She added: ‘It wasn’t very romantic. But actually that doesn’t matter.’

Kate told the Scottish presenter she admired how he ‘does what he’s told from the get-go’, while Ben joked: ‘It wasn’t even a question, was it?’.

Lorraine has been happily married to Steve for more than 28 years. The couple tied the knot on the 5 September 1992.

They have one daughter, Rosie, 26. 

Lorraine has previously spoke about her nuptials and said she regretted her choice of wedding dress. 

She told Hello Magazine: ‘It was such a small one, it was wee, it really was.

‘All I wanted was men in kilts and pipers. There was no real plan. It was very, very traditional. 

‘My dress… Uyuy-yuy. It was 1992 so it was kind of like a Princess Diana bouffant thing with big sleeves – oh God. We could all get in it. We could all fit in my dress. I’ve still got it.’
