Anne-Marie confesses to suffering from ‘food-phobia’ and a ‘fear of vomiting’

She recently made her debut as a judge on The Masked Singer UK. 

And now Anne-Marie has revealed her ‘phobia’ of certain foods might hinder her as she makes her first appearance on the 2021 series of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer.

The pop sensation, 29, confessed to living off cheese bagels for years after developing a strange relationship with food and a fear of vomiting. 

She said on the Off the Menu podcast: ‘My mum and dad went to the doctors because they were worried that this was the only thing I was eating.   

‘I would have cheese sandwiches for lunchtime then come home and have two cheese sandwiches for dinner. I wouldn’t eat any vegetables or fruit. My dream meal is a Philadelphia bagel. Just cream cheese, no butter. In two bagels I will eat the whole tub.’  

‘I feel like my whole life I have had this eating thing because I have this phobia of vomit. So I have never wanted to try anything. I am so terrified of it. I think that’s why subconsciously I can’t experiment with food.’

According to Anne-Marie she suffers from a condition called emetophobia which involves an extreme fear of vomiting. 

She disclosed that she previously visited a hypnotherapist to overcome her phobia, and that she only tried a tomato for the first time five-years-ago. 

Recently, she expanded her palate to try some onion after watching the food documentary, What The Health, which inspired her to eat more vegetables. 

She is now a vegan and is set to put her dairy-free baking skills to the test on the 2021 Celebrity Bake Off show.   

It’s set to be a starry line-up of 20 celebs, including Hollywood elite, golden girls from the world of pop and Olympic and Paralympic heroes aplenty. 

Kicking off the line-up is British actor James McAvoy, famed for roles in the X Men films as well as the likes of It: Chapter Two and Atonement.   

James will see another fellow Hollywood star in the form of Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley hitting the tent, while TV presenters Stacey Dooley and Anneka Rice are among the celebrity bakers.

Also hoping to impress with their baking skills will be double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, actor and comedian John Bishop, comedian and presenter Tom Allen, author and TV star David Baddiel and Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall.

The list of celebrity participants also includes YouTuber and musician KSI, Paralympian Ade Adepitan, author and psychotherapist Philippa Perry, radio DJ Nick Grimshaw and comedian Rob Beckett.

Former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, actor Reece Shearsmith, musician Dizzee Rascal, as well as singer Nadine Coyle, and comedian Katherine Ryan are also all on board.

Each episode will see four celebrities battle it out over three rounds – the Signature, the Technical and the Showstopper – in a bid to be crowned Star Baker.

Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will be judging the bakes while host Matt Lucas will also return to the tent ‘keeping time and spirits up’.

Across five episodes, due to air in the spring, the celebrities will be doing their bit in aid of Stand Up To Cancer, a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.
