British man, 27, who was arrested by police at Heathrow after arriving on flight from Turkey is charged with terror offences

A 27-year-old British man who was arrested at Heathrow airport after arriving on a flight from Turkey has been charged with terror offences.   

Stefan Aristidou was arrested at the London airport by officers from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command on Wednesday evening.

After his flight from Turkey landed he was taken into custody at a south London police station.

The British national was remanded and charged under the Terrorism Act on Thursday.

Aristidou is due before Westminster Magistrates’ Court today charged with seven counts of dissemination of terrorist publications.  

As part of a pre-planned operation, Aristidou was arrested at Heathrow at around 6.10pm on Wednesday by officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts – in relation to alleged offending in Syria – encouragement of terrorism and dissemination of terrorist publications. 

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: ‘Stefan Aristidou, 27, a British national, was charged on Thursday, February 4 with seven counts of dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

‘He has been remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, Friday,  February 5.’
