Charli XCX broke her silence about Sophie Xeon’s death in a statement shared to Twitter on Monday evening.
The singer, 28, who had collaborated with the trans icon, hailed the producer a ‘special person’ as she declared she’ll honour her ‘in my grief, through my memories, through my work and through writing things only I will read’.
Grammy-nominated musician Sophie passed away aged 34 last Saturday following a ‘terrible accident’ while living in Athens.

The songwriter wrote: ‘It’s really hard for me to sum up the special connection I felt with such an amazing person who completely changed my life.
‘There are so many memories, so many small details, so many different views and incredible feelings and stories. It’s impossible to summarize the journey I went on with Sophie.’
The Fancy hitmaker also reflected on their close relationship as she added: ‘Even the most insignificant things felt enormous. I can’t explain how I feel and I can’t encapsulate what a unique person she was in one small social media post.
‘I will honor Sophie in my own time personally, in my grief, through my memories, through my work, through writing things only I will read.
‘But for now, all I can is that I will miss her terribly; her smile, her laugh, her dancing in the studio, her gentle inquisitive voice, her cutting personality, her ability to command a room without even trying, her incredible vision and mind.

‘She taught me so much about myself without even realizing. I wish I had told her more how special she was, not just her music, but her as a person. I Iove you and I will never forget you Sophie.’ (sic)
The longtime friends first joined forces in March 2015, before Sophie produced Charli’s Vroom Vroom EP, which was released in February 2016.
In late 2016, the Glasgow native served as an additional producer on After the Afterparty, and is also credited on her 2017 mixtape Number 1 Angel.
The media personality previously praised SOPHIE for helping her perfect her craft as she said in an interview with Vogue in 2019: ‘Working with SOPHIE was a key moment for me in realizing myself as a musician.
‘I felt like I finally found someone who could articulate my ideas sonically. When I met SOPHIE, it was like: Wow, you get it, and you get me, and you also make me feel something. There are very few artists who make me feel something up my core and make me wanna cry.
‘Justice and Uffie made me feel something when I was 14, and I didn’t really have that feeling again until I met Sophie. I felt this rush of: F**k, this is the coolest s**t I have ever heard.’
Charli’s fans expressed their support for the grieving artist by creating the ‘HereForCharli’ hashtag on Twitter over the weekend.
However, TikTok’s Charli D’Amelio had mistakenly assumed the endless string of heartfelt messages were meant for her.

The social media star, 16, wrote: ‘i am looking through the ‘hereforcharli’ hashtag and oh my goodness you are all so sweet to me.
‘You have no idea how much your kind words warm my heart i am so lucky to have you all by my side!! i love you bebs.’ (sic)
The Scottish star, who was also known as SOPHIE, had worked with stars including Madonna and Rihanna.
Her record label, Transgressive, announced on Twitter that the star ‘slipped and fell’ in the Greek capital after climbing to ‘watch the full moon’.

A senior police official confirmed to MailOnline the artist fell from the rooftop of a three-story building in central Athens while trying to take a picture of the full moon.
‘The exact conditions of the fall are being investigated by police in central Athens,’ a senior official said. ‘The investigation is ongoing.’
Sophie’s girlfriend Evita Manji told MailOnline she managed to speak to her after she fell into an open space in the rear of the apartment bloc.
‘I managed to tell her I love her and to tell her to keep fighting,’ she said. ‘She was my life. We were supposed to get married.’
Musicians and fans took to Twitter last Saturday to pay tribute to the star, who came out as a transgender woman in 2017 in the video It’s Okay to Cry.

The statement from Transgressive said: ‘Tragically our beautiful Sophie passed away this morning after a terrible accident.
‘True to her spirituality she had climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell.’
‘She will always be here with us. The family thank everyone for their love and support and request privacy at this devastating time.’
A further statement from SOPHIE’s team, reported by the Metro, called her a ‘pioneer of new sound’.
The statement read: ‘It is with profound sadness that I have to inform you that musician and producer SOPHIE passed away this morning around 4am in Athens, where the artist had been living, following a sudden accident.’
‘At this time respect and privacy for the family is our priority.

‘We would also ask for respect for her fanbase, and to treat the private nature of this news with sensitivity.’
French singer-songwriter Christine and the Queens said SOPHIE was ‘a stellar producer, a visionary and a reference’.
She added: ‘She rebelled against the narrow, normative society by being an absolute triumph, both as an artist and as a woman.
‘I can’t believe she is gone. We need to honor and respect her memory and legacy. Cherish the pioneers.’
One transgender fan tweeted: ‘As a trans woman, Sophie’s music and message of empowerment means so much to me- more than I could ever put to words.
‘She is and will always be a true icon of the community who gave us a voice and an outlet.’

Speaking in 2018 after coming out as transgender, SOPHIE said: ‘It means there’s no longer an expectation based on the body you were born into, or how your life should play out and how it should end.
‘Traditional family models and structures of control disappear.
‘Transness is taking control to bring your body more in line with your soul and spirit so the two aren’t fighting against each other and struggling to survive.’
