Radio host Jane Kennedy breaks down in tears as she reveals the real reason she quit Triple M’s Kennedy Molloy show

She announced her shock departure from Triple M’s Kennedy Molloy on Friday.

And on Monday, Jane Kennedy broke down in tears as she revealed the reason why she quit the drive-time show after three and a half years.

‘In 2020 with lockdown and Covid, I had four teenagers doing homeschooling. That’s pretty full-on to be honest,’ she explained.

‘This year I have two university kids, I’ve got a HSC student, I’ve got two year nines, all living at home, and I thought I could juggle everything.’

She added: ‘This is the highlight of my day, as you know. You put a lot of effort into it and I just felt I couldn’t do 100 per cent with the kids and with a radio show.’

‘Unfortunately these pesky five teenagers are going to have to come first. I’m sorry everyone, I’ve loved it. It’s bloody overwhelming and I want to do the right thing by the kids,’ she said, breaking down in tears.

Jane went on to thank her co-host Mick Molloy for ‘being a gentleman’ and making sure she was treated equally in pay negotiations.

‘Thank you, Micky, for being a gentleman with me. Also, one of the first men in this country to absolutely insist on parity… also calling the show Kennedy Molloy,’ she said.

‘There is no doubt that we’re treated as equals and I just wanted to make sure I let everyone know that.’

Mick, 54, will continue to host the show, which will now aptly be called Molloy.

He said in a statement that Jane will be ‘missed’ and that she’s ‘irreplaceable’.

‘If she says she’s got too much on her plate then that’s the end of the argument,’ Mick said.

‘I guess I will have to chalk this up as yet another significant relationship with a woman that didn’t last as long as I would have liked.’

Jane’s departure was announced just before the pair were due to return to the airwaves on January 18, after the radio break.
