Phillip Schofield kindly offers to pay distressed This Morning viewer’s £700 electricity bill

Phillip Schofield kindly offered to pay a viewer’s £700 electricity bill during Thursday’s This Morning.

The presenter, 58, made the gesture as he and co-star Holly Willoughby, 39, led a phone-in with money expert Martin Lewis, in which people were encouraged to call in with their financial questions.

And one caller named Patricia admitted that she was so distressed by her mounting bill that she couldn’t eat or sleep, causing Phillip to declare: ‘One way or the other we’ll fix this for you.’

The moment came after 73-year-old Patricia told how she was hit with a £701.85 bill after she had switched energy companies and was unable to understand why.

It then transpired that she hadn’t been sending her gas or electricity readings to her former supplier as she didn’t know how to.

With Martin stressing the importance of sending in weekly metre readings, Patricia stressed ‘I don’t know how’, with Martin offering to help her further after the phone-in.

Patricia explained that she was so concerned by the bill that it was affecting her health, admitting to them: ‘It’s causing me not to eat or sleep.’

At this, a serious Phil said: ‘No, no no no. Don’t do that. Listen, one way or the other we’ll fix this for you.’

Looking to Holly and Martin, he added: ‘If the worst comes to the worst we’ll pay it for you.’

A very grateful Patricia then replied: ‘Thank you very much. I’m so glad I don’t through to you.’

Phil’s offer comes after Holly praised by This Morning fans last Wednesday as she gave away her own printer to help a struggling mum with homeschooling her children.

The star made the kind gesture during a heartwarming phone-in segment alongside co-star Phillip and agony aunt Deidre Saunders.

Touched my one mum’s struggle to provide resources to home school her children properly, Holly offered up her own spare printer, with fans hailing her a ‘really lovely person.’

The mum in question, called June, had called in to the show to reveal she was overwhelmed by the prospect of home schooling once again following the announcement of another national lockdown.

During the call, she mentioned that she didn’t own a printer as she contemplated whether it could help her organise lessons with her kids.

Feeling sympathetic towards June, Holly – who is a mum to three children herself – then declared that she would personally send her own equipment as she had a spare printer.

She told June: ‘Please don’t worry if you don’t home school every day.

‘I actually have a spare printer you can have that printer! It’s just sitting at home and we never use it.

‘I will bring it in tomorrow and you can have it, and that will sort your printer issue out. I’ll bring it in so stay on the lines.’

A thrilled June was clearly grateful for Holly’s gesture as she exclaimed: ‘Oh alright, yes, thank you so much Holly!’

This Morning continues weekdays from 10am on ITV.
