Punky Brewster’s Soleil Moon Frye announces the premiere of her rebooted series in first-look photo

Soleil Moon Frye sounded overjoyed on Wednesday as she announced the premiere date for the rebooted version of her classic sitcom Punky Brewster.

The 44-year-old actress, who also played Punky in the original 1980s series, gave fans a first look at the series with a cast photo featuring Freddie Prinze Jr and her former costar Cherie Johnson.

‘SO excited to share the big news. Prepare for Punky Power!’ Frye gushed in her tweet.

Coming soon: Soleil Moon Frye, 44, revealed her rebooted Punky Brewster series will debut on Peacock on February 25 as she shared a first-look photo on Wednesday

‘The all-new #PunkyBrewster is coming to @peacockTV on Feb 25. Feeling all the feels right now. Thank you for all of the Punky love and support. Can’t wait to watch it with you.’

The new photo featured Frye as Punky in a black tank top and overalls to match some of her looks from decades earlier.

She was surrounded by a beaming Prinze and Johnson, along with a new batch of young actors.

In her original series, Punky was a young girl being raised by a foster father, but now she plays a divorced single mother with three children who is searching for stability in her life.

The reboot will also be animated by the younger generation, with Quinn Copeland playing Izzy, a young girl in the foster system whom Punky takes a liking to after being reminded of her childhood self.

Noah Cottrell, Oliver De Los Santos and Lauren Lindsey Donzis will also appear as Punky’s three children, Diego, Daniel and Hannah, respectively.

In addition to starring in this newest version of Punky Brewster, Frye will also be working behind the camera as executive producer.

Fans of the original series, which had a modest four-season run from 1984 to 1988, can already catch up in advance of the reboot on NBC’s Peacock streaming service.

The new streamer seems to be focusing on nostalgia-oriented reboots to help shore up its popularity.

So far, Peacock has released an original movie based on the series Psych, which debuted in July, while a Saved By The Bell reboot debuted to dueling praise from critics and jeers from viewers over a joke referencing Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant.

Subscribers can also look forward to a Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air reboot, as well as a series continuation of MacGruber, the Will Forte parody of MacGyver that originated on Saturday Night Live before transitioning to the cult-classic 2010 film.

In August, it was announced that Frye was working on a documentary focusing on her teen years for Hulu.

The film, Kid 90, features footage she shot herself as a teenager, along with new interviews with some of her lifelong friends.

The documentary serves as a ‘blueprint of Frye’s life’ by incorporating voicemails, audio recordings and even entries from her diary with the footage.

There will also be new interviews with some of the actress and director’s best friends, including David Arquette, Balthazar Getty, Brian Austin Green, Stephen Dorff and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

This comes after news Frye has separated from her husband of 22 years, Jason Goldberg, 48.
