Wife, 51, is arrested for murder after her 54-year-old husband is found stabbed to death in their home

  • Police said he had been stabbed and arrested woman, 51, on suspicion of murder

A 51-year-old woman has been arrested for murder after her husband was found stabbed to death in their home. 

The 54-year-old man’s body was discovered at the property in Exmouth, Devon, after police were called at around 9pm on Sunday.

Police were alerted by ambulance staff at the house on Tennyson Way, in the Brixington area of the town, and the woman was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers from the Major Crime Team were gathering evidence and crime officers were also at the scene. Police said the man had been stabbed.

An extension was granted today to detain the woman at Exeter Magistrates Court. A source said it was likely she will be charged and appear before the court on Wednesday.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: ‘Emergency services attended the property on Tennyson Way, Brixington, and a 54-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

‘Scenes of crime officers are carrying out enquiries at the address. His next-of-kin have been informed. Formal identification is yet to take place.

‘A 51-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody. 

‘An extension for her detention has been granted while a mental health assessment is conducted and detectives from the Major Crime Team continue gathering crucial evidence.’
