Tamar Braxton reveals she attempted suicide because she thought her son Logan, 7, ‘deserved better’

Tamar Braxton broke down in tears as she revealed that she attempted suicide over the summer because she felt her seven-year-old son Logan ‘deserved better’.

During an upcoming appearance on Taraji P. Henson’s new Facebook Watch show Peace Of Mind With Taraji, Tamar, 43, got emotional as she made the confession.

She said of her suicide attempt: ‘Logan was the reason why I made that decision. I just felt like he deserved better. I felt like I was embarrassing him, being a fool on TV.’

Former Empire star, 50, asked if she ‘thought [Logan] would be better without’ her, prompting a tearful Tamar to respond: ‘I thought in that moment.’

Fighting back the flow of tears, Tamar – who shares her son with ex-husband Vincent Herbert, 47 – added: ‘Because I knew that’s not what my whole life really was.

‘That’s not who I was. I didn’t want him to be embarrassed in front of his friends. Here is this loudmouth ghetto mama.’

Her sisters recently revealed on E! News’ Daily Pop that she has ‘good days’ and ‘not-so-good days’ as they continued to show their support, while promoting season seven of the show, which has sparked a feud between Tamar and We TV.

Towanda Braxton said: ‘We have been in contact with Tamar. We have actually seen her. I guess it was about three or four weeks ago. We saw her while we were in LA.

‘She has good days and she has not-so-good days, but we just keep praying and lifting her up and supporting her in the way we that she wants us to support her.’

Tamar was rushed to a hospital in July after she was found unresponsive at the Ritz-Carlton Residences at LA Live in Los Angeles, after attempting to take her own life.

She previously said she had contemplated suicide long before her attempt this year, but her sisters have admitted they had no idea what Tamar was going through in her private life.

Towanda added: ‘I don’t think that anyone ever anticipated that it would go this far. But I will say that there have been moments that she said she was unhappy and she was sad.

‘I think that now it’s making all of us – not just with the Tamar situation – but all of us as a whole to pay attention to our strong friends, to make sure we check up on them and make sure they’re okay.

‘Because although they’re walking around with a smile on their face, doesn’t mean that they have it all together.’

Tamar recently opened up on the The Tamron Hall Show about the mental health battle, saying she was at her ‘lowest point’ during her suicide attempt.

When asked if she ‘took pills’ during her suicide attempt, she responded: ‘It’s so hard to say, Tamron, because I feel like there’s a responsibility for – you know, I call them family, my fans who watch.’

The singer and TV personality continued: ‘I don’t want to give any examples. But what I will say is, that was my lowest point of life.’

Tamron also asked if Tamar tried to take her own life before her July attempt, to which she said: ‘I’m just going to be a hundred percent. There has been a time where I wanted to.’

The Bluebird of Happiness artist insisted she hasn’t attempted suicide since the incident in July, but has been diagnosed with ‘depression and anxiety.’

She added: ‘It’s been a lot of dark, hard times. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety due to a circumstance.’

Tamar also revealed that although she is not taking medication, she has been attending counselling.

It comes after she slammed We TV last month for seemingly exploiting her mental illness in the trailer for season seven of Braxton Family Values, which premieres Thursday, November 5.

The clip addresses her suicide attempt, as mother Evelyn Braxton, 72, tells the cameras: ‘Toni called, she told me that Tamar was rushed to the hospital because she tried to commit suicide.’

Tamar subsequently wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post: ‘After waking up to that disgusting trailer…F*** @wetv and whomever else participating for using my pain for their pleasure and ratings.

‘Don’t miss my exclusive TELL ALL on my girl @tamronhallshow next week..at some point this abuse HAS to STOP and P.s. IM NOT FILMING FOR THIS SEASON! THEY ARE DOING THIS WHILE IM NOT ON THE SHOW.’

She previously released a lengthy statement on Instagram in late July, taking aim at the network for their neglect.

The Being Mary Jane actress wrote: ‘Over the past 11 years there were promises made to protect and portray my story, with the authenticity and honesty I gave.

‘I was betrayed, taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid. I wrote a letter over 2 months ago asking to be freed from what I believed was excessive and unfair.

‘I explained in personal detail the demise I was experiencing. My cry for help went totally ignored. However the demands persisted.

‘It was my spirit, and my soul that was tainted the most. There are a few things I count on most to be, a good mother, a good daughter, a good partner, a good sister, and a good person.

‘Who I was, begun to mean little to nothing, because it would only be how I was portrayed on television that would matter.

‘It was witnessing the slow death of the woman I became, that discouraged my will to fight. I felt like I was no longer living, I was existing for the purpose of a corporations gain and ratings, and that killed me.’

We TV later released a statement to E! News: ‘Tamar Braxton has been an important part of our network family for more than a decade.

As she focuses on her health and recovery at what is clearly a difficult and personal time, we will work with her representatives to honor her request to end all future work for the network. We wish her nothing but the best.’

Tamar’s sister Trina, 45, sided with her on Daily Pop: ‘I would say that everyone has their own experience and if that’s hers and if that’s her truth, she should be able to speak it. I personally didn’t have that same experience, but if it’s real for her, it’s real for her.’
