Taylor Swift’s surprise album Evermore dethrones Delta Goodrem’s Christmas hit Only Santa Knows

Taylor Swift surprised fans on Friday with the release of her second album of 2020, Evermore.

And her Australian fans moved swiftly to get the LP to the top spot of the iTunes album charts on Saturday – pushing Delta Goodrem’s festive offering to number two.

Only Santa Knows – which is Delta’s first Christmas album – was holding onto the top spot before Taylor swooped in and dethroned it. 

Delta took to Twitter on Wednesday to share her joy at making the top spot, writing: ‘Ahhhhh thankyou all for making Only Santa Knows #1 on iTunes today!!! go album go! xxx.’

Taylor is currently dominating the Australian iTunes charts, with the non-explicit version of Evermore also sitting at No. 3 on the chart too.  

Despite being bumped down to the number two position, the Lost Without You songstress can look forward to the airing of her first ever Christmas special on Channel Nine on Saturday.

Earlier this week, she spoke to A Current Affair host Leila McKinnon about her TV special Christmas with Delta. 

‘I am really hoping to bring a lot of love through this music and this Christmas special,’ she proudly said.

Delta will perform a slew of festive hits with her band – which includes her boyfriend, Matthew Copley, on guitar.

The one-hour special will also feature special appearances from Kylie Minogue in London and Olivia Newton John in California. 

Over the past few months, Delta and Matthew have been streaming intimate performances online during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Born to Try songstress revealed it was ‘so special’ to be back on a stage following months of their ‘bunker-down sessions’.

‘I saw the set [of the Christmas special] and I really feel like it is a dream come true to get to do this, I am very grateful,’ she said.

She will be giving back to families who have been impacted by the drought, bushfires and pandemic this year, with the help of Tourism Australia.

‘I feel like one of Santa’s elves which I am very excited about, there are some beautiful stories,’ she added.

Christmas with Delta will air December 12 at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
