You’ll NEVER guess what Michael Gross looks like now! Iconic dad from Family Ties reveals why the hit 1980s sitcom was popular

He’s considered one of the most iconic dads of the 1980s after playing Steven Keaton on popular sitcom Family Ties.

And on Thursday, Michael Gross reflected on the show more than 30 years after it went off the air as he sat down for an interview on The Morning Show.

The 73-year-old actor wore a blue checked buttoned shirt as he discussed why the sitcom was so successful.

‘It was a popular show at the time because I think it was an American family and it was intact and we know that the divorce rate is still horrible,’ he said.

‘I think people were looking for a family that they did not have at home,’ Michael explained.

‘If you saw some of the fan mail they got from people like kids would say they wish they had a father like me.’

Michael also discussed his new film Tremors: Shrieker Island with hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur.

‘About 30 years ago at the end of Family Ties, within a couple of weeks I was on the set of a movie called Tremors and that first film starred Kevin Bacon, Rita McIntire, myself, Fred Ward, a wonderful bunch of actors,’ he said.

Michael continued: ‘And 30 years later this is the gift that keeps on giving. We have just released and will soon be releasing in Australia, Tremor seven Streaker Island in which I am one of the world’s foremost monster hunters.’

Meanwhile, the original Family Ties series aired for seven seasons on NBC between 1982 and 1989, spanning 172 episodes.

The show, created by Gary David Goldberg, followed the unique family, comprised of two liberal former hippie parents, their ultra-conservative son and two daughters.

Family Ties was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmys for its first four seasons.

Michael J. Fox, who played Alex P. Keaton in the sitcom, won three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series throughout the show’s run.
