  • The woman clearly labelled every box by room so unpacking will be stress free
  • Also the movers know exactly what room gets what colour, making it quicker

A woman has shared her packing trick for transporting items from one home to another smoothly – complete with colour coded labels.

The woman, from Melbourne, said her simple time-saving tip involves DIY labels printed on coloured papers, which are all allocated to each room of the house.

By clearly labelling every box by room, the unloading of the removal truck goes quicker as the movers know exactly what room gets what colour.

‘It helps ensure that when unpacking into the new home, the right boxes end up in the right room, and the notes section on the labels help distinguish contents and help decide which boxes to unpack first,’ she wrote in a Facebook group.

‘Makes it really easy to find what you’re looking for, and also easy to identify if a box has been unloaded into the wrong room, as the coloured label won’t match.

‘Just a small effort that can make a huge difference come moving day.’

She shared a picture of all her kitchen utensils and cookware with pink labels.

The woman said the system is budget friendly as the coloured papers cost her just $3, and she was able to print two labels per sheet.

‘Quite an affordable option and easier to look at, at first glance. Just an idea, not for everyone buy wanted to share what helps me,’ she added.

Dozens were impressed with the simple packing solution, with many saying they will be ‘stealing’ her idea when they move houses.

‘Fantastic idea. We are packing to move house at the moment. Think I’ll do something like this for our boxes. Thanks for the tip,’ one wrote.

However, not everyone seemed keen on the idea, with one saying: ‘You can just write that on the box. A lot cheaper.’

And another added: ‘Oh man that’s far too much effort but what an awesome way to do it,’ to which the woman responded: ‘I promise only takes 30 seconds per box but saves heaps of time and stress when unpacking.’
