He said: ‘Matt and Tyler the new directors are incredible artists and they were really inspired by Wes, we felt his energy on the set and we missed him a lot. So it was kind of sad that way.’

‘But it was really great to work with Courtney and Nev again, there’s so much history. We have a 16-year-old daughter because we met on the first one.

‘There’s a lot of heart and emotion attached to it, and just love. It was great to be able to revisit these characters again. It was a trip too because Jack was a little kid and now he’s 25, he’s on the set and a tremendous actor, really witty and funny.

‘I’m looking at him and he’s the age I was when I started the first Scream, it was a weird time warp wild experience, I’m really grateful for it, there’s a lot of great new actors that I think people will really enjoy and already love.

‘I think it’s going to excite people.’

Following the split David claimed that the decision wasn’t his, after Courtney grew tired of his ‘kooky’ ways, he told Us Weekly at the time.

Elsewhere during the chat, David spoke about what he considered to be an ‘injustice’ of his youth, which is the main topic of the podcast.

He said: ‘I was a graffiti writer as a kid, we were teenagers in LA, we had a crew called kids gone bad, we were tagging the neighbourhood one time – running tagging buses which is terrible.’

‘We evolved into being artists and doing it in legal places, but at the time we were just making trouble. One day were tagging buses and this cop started chasing me and then caught me. There were three of us and his cop was amazing, totally cool black dude he was really funny. ‘

‘He picked up all of us, he knew exactly where were going to be coming out, he did it in this fun way where he busted up and then said I’m just supposed to get off work now and go and have dinner and you guys are screwing up night.

‘He took us to my friends house but his parents weren’t there, only his older brother. He released us to his older brother and we didn’t get in any trouble. We were like thank you so much sir!

‘A few months later we were doing a battle where two crew comes together and paints pieces, it’s more of a black neighbourhood. So we were leaving, I thought it was more of a legal wall. But these cops busted us, they messed with us all the time.

‘This time it was the same cop, I thought oh no he’s going to be p****ed, but he didn’t recognise us as the same kids.

‘But it was a totally different experience, he had us kneeling on the concrete for what seemed like hours. But they handcuffed us really tight and pushed us around a little.

‘He was like “you white boys come into our neighbourhood” it was a totally different experience, he wasn’t joking around like the last time.

‘It’s not like an injustice I always think of, but I don’t feel like I was the one out of line both times. But it’s funny the different experiences.

‘He was ultimately a cool cop because we didn’t even get busted that time.

‘I still do graffiti artist on a legal level but what really helped was my high school drama teacher helped me get into plays and it helped me with the direction of my life.’
