Sarah Michelle Gellar reacts to Stacey Abrams discussing if Angel or Spike was the right one

In the beloved series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the main character, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, has two major romances throughout the series – both with vampires – Angel (played by David Boreanaz) and Spike (played by James Marsters).

Since the show’s run from the late nineties to the early 2000s, the age old question of who was the better boyfriend – Angel or Spike – has often been the center of heated discussions.

Following a nail biting election last week, where Stacey Abrams most likely helped George flip from red to blue due to pushing voting registration, she decided to speak on another contentious topic – Angel or Spike as the best boyfriend for Buffy.

Wow! Following a nail biting election last week, where Stacey Abrams most likely helped George flip from red to blue due to pushing voting registration, she decided to speak on another contentious topic – Angel or Spike as the best boyfriend for Buffy; Sarah Michelle Gellar in character as Buffy

On Twitter, someone looped in Stacey in the conversation, asking her: ‘Hey @staceyabrams you wanna talk buffy sometime?’

Another person said ‘She ships Spike.’

Stacey responded: ‘To be fair, Angel was the right boyfriend for Buffy coming into her power. Spike was the right man to be with as she became the power.’

Soon after, an excited Sarah Michelle took to her Instagram stories, reposted her tweet and had ‘Verified fangirl’ beneath.

Buffy with Spike

Which one? In the beloved series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the main character, played by Srah Michelle Gellar, has two romances throughout the series – both with vampires – Angel and Spike

Sarah Michelle played Buffy Summers on the hit series for seven seasons, fighting off evil beings from vampires, witches and more.

Buffy developed a relationship with Angel, who she later found was a vampire, after newly becoming the vampire slayer.

The duo underwent a messy relationship, with Angel getting his soul taken away and returning as his former Angelus; his soul was taken away following his one moment of true happiness – when the duo consummated their relationship.

After his soul was later returned and the duo restarted their romance, Angel left town after realizing he was stopping her from leading a normal life.

The duo both moved on from their romance; another person she briefly had a romance with but was an important relationship in her life was Riley Finn – but they also did not last.

Spike, also a vampire and someone who was her enemy in the early seasons, fell in love with her, even more so after she died and then came back to life.

They also split but in the end, they forged a strong connection together, with Buffy telling him that she loved in in the series finale before he was turned to dust.

Previously she had only told Angel she loved him.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer aired from 1997 until 2003.

Stacey also had an opinion on the 2020 reboot of Buffy, to which she said: ‘I tend to be skeptical of remakes. I do not mind taking a core narrative and expanding on it. I do take exception often to trying to redo the original,’ she told Vanity Fair.

She continued: ‘Or, if you’re going to do it, make sure that you’ve divorced it so much that for something that is as epic as a series, that you’re trying something different.’

Adding: ‘I think if you’re going to do it, it should be based on the universe that was created by Joss Whedon, but pick another person. He created so much opportunity with the potentials, we might as well follow one of them instead of trying to recast and recapture what Sarah Michelle Gellar brought to the Buffy franchise.’
