The Bachelorette is FINISHED: Why the ‘boring’ dating show won’t survive its disaster season

The Bachelorette is treading water by recycling dates and casting uninspiring leads – and viewers have had enough.

During Thursday’s finale, Elly Miles enjoyed a bathtub date with Frazer Neate while her sister, Becky, went skydiving with Pete Mann – but we’d seen it all before.

Fans of the dating show are now begging producers to include more original content in future seasons – but at this stage it wouldn’t be surprising if Channel 10 just threw in the towel and cancelled the show.

‘Oh, that’s what this season was missing, a bathtub in the middle of a backyard. They Saved the best for the finale,’ one viewer tweeted.

Another wrote: ‘They’re determined to get their money’s worth out of that copper bathtub, aren’t they.’

‘Juuuuust when I thought we’d gotten through an entire season without a skydiving date #BacheloretteAU,’ a third said.

‘There always has to be one instance of skydiving per season. Glad to know that this one didn’t disappoint,’ yet another wrote.

The bathtub date has featured in almost every season of The Bachelor and Bachelorette – and was most notoriously included in Richie Strahan’s season when he enjoyed a ‘sensual’ chocolate bath date with Alex Nation.

Meanwhile, fans also slammed the finale for its lack of glitz and glamour compared to previous seasons, which became apparent during Elly and Joe’s ‘ute date’.

‘A date in the back of a ute is a new kind of budget,’ one viewer tweeted, while another added, ‘Bouquet on a Ute. This is Australian romance.’

Even Bachelorette host Osher Günsberg felt compelled to share his thoughts on Twitter.

‘Can only imagine going down to the florists for this, “Yeah, have you got anything for a ute picnic?”‘ the 46-year-old tweeted.

‘Oh god, it truly is budget Bachie this year, hey? Not only is there no cheese, they can’t even afford couches now,’ commented another viewer.

Meanwhile, other longtime fans have clearly had enough of the repetition, imploring Channel 10 and producers Warner Bros. to challenge themselves for future seasons.

‘@Channel10AU think you need to revisit the format for both Bachelor and Bachelorette. They’ve gotten boring,’ commented one viewer.

And it seems they weren’t alone.

‘It’s official. This season of #BacheloretteAU is my new insomnia cure. I don’t care who either Becky or Elly end up with, it is such boring television,’ another added.

Elly and Becky’s season of The Bachelorette struggled to find an audience, with viewers cold on the idea of two sisters finding love.

The show suffered its worst ratings in history last month, with TV Blackbox reporting that one episode pulled in just 464,000 metro viewers.

The dire figures came after a string of disappointing results, including an underwhelming season premiere.

Channel 10 has said that The Bachelorette will return next year, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the network changes its mind after last night’s finale.
