‘We did what we had to do’: SAS Australia’s Erin McNaught DEFENDS Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins after he received backlash for his brutal fight with Sabrina Frederick

SAS Australia’s Erin McNaught has defended Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins, after he received backlash for his brutal fight with Sabrina Frederick.

The former Miss Universe Australia told Perth Now on Monday that the intensity of the show is not that shocking as the celebrities knew what they were ‘signing up for’.

‘It really upsets me when people are targeting Nick about this, because we did what we had to do,’ the 38-year-old said.

‘If we didn’t do what we were told to do [by the directing staff], we’d get kicked off,’ she continued.

Erin’s comments were in relation to the premiere episode aired last week, where viewers were left shocked after witnessing the brutal boxing match between former Bachelor star Nick, 33, and AFLW star Sabrina, 23.

Many insisted Nick shouldn’t have hit a woman even though he was acting under orders from the directing staff.

However, Chief Instructor Ant Middleton defended the controversial scene, insisting that Nick and Sabrina’s clash was fairly matched, on radio on Monday.

‘I don’t go easy, there is no favouritism here,’ the former British soldier told Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa.

‘It’s like, “Can you do the job?”. I don’t care what gender you are, it’s not about race, religion etc etc. “Can you do the job, yes or no?”‘ he added.

The tough-talking TV star also described Sabrina as a ‘hard a** woman’ who is ‘as tough as they come’, and insisted he’d much rather fight Nick than her.

Meanwhile, during the second episode aired last Tuesday, audiences winced again when Shayna Jack was crushed by Nick during a brutal game of murder ball.

Shayna, 21, was rushed to the infirmary after being tackled to the ground by Nick.

As the game ended, Shayna was still seen lying on the ground, clutching her midsection in pain.

Returning to the base camp later that night, an injured Shayna collapsed as she stepped out of the truck, requiring the attention of a medic who determined she had a bruised rib.
