A fearless rescuer clambered down the arm of a JCB digger to save a man from fast-flowing floodwater. 

Footage recorded in Maharashtra, India, shows victim Sachin Bhise stranded in the middle of an overflowing stream.

The unnamed hero did not hesitate to shimmy down the arm of the industrial machine before successfully hauling the man from the rapids.

In the clip, the arm of the JCB digger can be seen already in position bent toward the water with a team of rescuers standing on the bank.

One of the men, dressed in a waterproof yellow ensemble, straddles the machine as he reaches down toward the stranded victim.

The rescuer manages to place an orange tether around the man’s body before the others work to hoist him back to dry land.

They successfully pull him to the bank but suddenly one of the rescue team, who is wearing a blue helmet, slips into the fast-paced water.

The team hurriedly extend the JCB arm once again as the rescuer in yellow desperately reaches down to the water.

Fortunately the man in the blue helmet is able to clamber up around his fellow rescuer as the rest of the team cheers enthusiastically. 

Maharashtra has been hit with unrelenting rainfall which has been wreaking havoc across the southern states of India.

There have been more than 40 others safely rescued with 15 other operations currently underway.

The other worst hit areas include Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The heavy downpour has claimed 35 lives across the country so far in rain-related incidents in the last 48 hours.

This includes six people who were killed by a wall collapse triggered by the heavy rains in Pandharpur.
