Matt Preston reveals the cringeworthy MasterChef scene he regrets doing

He’s the former MasterChef judge who appeared on the show for over a decade and now Matt Preston has revealed the infamous scene he regrets doing.

On Sunday, the chef, 59, admitted he feels guilty about slamming a pasta dish made by contestant Aaron Harvie on the floor, during season two of the show in 2010. 

‘One thing that was happening that year was the contestants would take their plate back and all the other contestants would taste it,’ he told News.com.au.

‘My thinking was that it was such a great dish that every contestant would want to taste it, but I’d not let them taste it,’ he said.

Matt admitted he regretted slamming Aaron’s plate on the floor because it ‘looked really mean’ and ‘it was a stupid thing to do.’

‘There’s an element of knowing better… It looked really mean. You should always try to avoid being mean, and that came across as mean,’ he said.

During the episode of MasterChef in 2010, Matt was tasting a dish made by Aaron but he didn’t appear impressed.

‘There are some dishes that are freakish Frankenstein disasters and quite frankly, that is disgusting,’ he said before smashing the plate on the floor.

A heartbroken Aaron was on the verge of tears before Matt clarified: ‘It’s disgustingly good.’

Meanwhile, Matt is set to return to TV alongside his former MasterChef co-host Gary Mehigan and their new co-judge Manu Feildel for Seven’s new cooking show Plate of Origin.

The show will see 10 teams from different countries compete in a World Cup-style culinary battle.

The countries represented in the competition include Australia, Cameroon, China, France, Greece, Italy, India, Lebanon, Venezuela and Vietnam. 

Plate of Origin will premiere on Sunday, August 30 at 7pm on Channel Seven
