Cook and Gillies, who announced their split over a year ago after about 15 years of marriage, share two children: daughter Charlotte, six, and son Theodore, five.

According to court documents obtained by Us, Cook is seeking joint custody of their kids in their ongoing divorce proceedings.

And although Cook has been gushing about Kevin, it appears the relationship is far too new for her to introduce him to the children just yet.

High praise: ‘He’s really great. I did good, if I do say so. Definitely hitting out of my league there,’ the Minnesota native told Us Weekly of her new beau Kevin on Monday

‘I feel like what’s the rush, you know what I mean? I don’t want to get it wrong. We’re going to take it beat by beat,’ Cook said.

She went on to explain her reasoning for wanting to wait for just the right moment to make the introduction.

‘If they ever Google deep dive this time in their parents’ life and they see this interview in the future and they’re like, “What the hell, mom?” we’ll have that discussion then. But in the meantime, I’m just going to take small steps and they can be on a need to know basis.’

‘Your discretion in this matter is kindly requested for the sake of our children during this time of transition. Thank you to those of you who are already aware; for your tremendous compassion and understanding.’

Cook made her film debut in comedy drama The Baby-Sitters Club (1995). It was her roles in the teen romantic comedy She’s All That (1999) and Josie And The Pussycats that garnered her widespread recognition.

Most recently she’s been out promoting her upcoming Netflix rom-com film Love, Guaranteed, which Cook helped conceive the storyline before pitching it to her manager, who then in turn found a writer.

‘We were shooting about eight months later,’ Cook told Us Weekly of the speedy process.

‘The plot is about a slightly disgruntled man who’s a little bit burned by love [and] places a lawsuit against a website that guarantees that you will meet The One after going on the requisite number of dates. I’m his lawyer, but complications ensue.’

Love, Guaranteed hits Netflix on Thursday, September 3.
