The former elite athlete recommended everyone give themselves permission to admit that it was a ‘cr*p time’.

‘Your cr*p time may be better than someone else’s cr*p time or it may be worse… but however you want to spin it, a tough time is a tough time… Accept it,’ she advised.

Turia also recommended having something to look forward to each day such as a walk, a Zoom catch up with friends or a pamper session.

‘You’ll feel a zillion times better about your day if you’re focusing on a positive event, and since our lives are comprised of days, it makes sense to make each day a good one,’ she said.

Turia admitted that during her long recovery, she found ‘perspective’ from reading inspiring biographies about inspirational people and her favourite was Head Over Heels by quadriplegic Sam Bailey.

Turia also recommended that those who felt they needed professional help, shouldn’t be embarrassed about seeking it out.
