Waleed Aly’s academic wife Dr Susan Carland slams COVID conspiracy theorists like celebrity chef Pete Evans with a powerful message of her own

Susan Carland has slammed COVID conspiracy theorists like Pete Evans with a series of powerful posts on Twitter on Thursday.

Although the 40-year-old academic didn’t name the controversial celebrity chef, she urged people not to pay attention to outrageous claims being made by certain public figures.  

‘I cannot believe this even needs to be said, but here we are: DO NOT TAKE SCIENTIFIC OR MEDICAL ADVICE FROM CHEFS, TENNIS PLAYERS, OR INSTAGRAM INFLUENCERS,’ she tweeted.

Susan, who is married to The Project’s Waleed Aly, added: ‘Or you could be “making up your own mind” all the way to the ICU.’

In a second post on Twitter, Susan admitted it was ‘such an interesting time to be an academic’.

‘As confidence in many key institutions of society crumbles (often understandably due to outrageous breaches of trust), so too is faith in expertise,’ she continued.

‘What do you do when genuine qualifications, skill & competence is irrelevant?’

Pete, 47, is just one of a growing number of celebrities peddling dangerous and baseless COVID-19 conspiracy theories.

The former My Kitchen Rules judge was fined $25,200 back in April after he falsely claimed his $15,000 BioCharger lamp could potentially cure coronavirus.

He’s since made several other damaging claims about the pandemic, which has so far led to over 790,000 deaths globally. 

Last month, Pete urged people in Victoria not to wear face masks, after it was made mandatory by the state government.

He also claimed that COVID-19 was a ‘f**king hoax’ and said that the pandemic ‘doesn’t compare to what is happening in the world on a large scale’.
