That should cure my ass-thma! Donkey with chronic breathing problems gets specially-made ‘inhaler’ so she can live in comfort

  • Rescue donkey Marla was given a specially-made ‘inhaler’ to help her breathing
  • She lives at the Flicka Foundation in Penryn, Cornwall, with other rescues
  • The charity was gifted two respiratory aids by BreathEazy to help the animals
  • They struggle with chronic breathing problems due to previous bad treatment

Rescue donkey Marla can breathe a sigh of relief now that she has a helping hand in, well, breathing.

The animal – who lives at the Flicka Foundation in Penryn, Cornwall – has a specially-made ‘inhaler’ that should give her the chance to live in comfort.

Marla, like many of the donkeys cared for at the sanctuary, struggles with chronic breathing problems due to being treated badly in the past.

The charity was gifted two respiratory aids by BreathEazy, a veterinary equipment company. Claire Turnbull from the sanctuary said: ‘We know it will help our special care residents so much.’

The sanctuary, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, has rescued and rehabilitated more than 1,000 animals suffering from abuse, neglect and abandonment since its inception in 1995.

Miss Turnbull added: ‘This has been such a wonderful boost at what is a very difficult time for us.’

‘We rely heavily on visitors coming through our sanctuary gates to feed and care for our precious donkeys, but, due to the complexities of opening during the ongoing pandemic, we remain closed and we have sadly had to cancel all of our upcoming Silver Jubilee Anniversary events.’

Jon Slattery, veterinary director at BreathEazy Ltd said: ‘We were delighted to be able to donate a couple of our systems for the donkeys at the sanctuary.

‘We love donkeys and it is our pleasure to be able to help such a good cause.’
