Maria Shriver wears ‘the future is female’ shirt as she goes out for a walk

She is delighted to be a grandmother for the first time after her daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger and husband Chris Pratt welcomed baby Lyla Marie this week.

And Maria Shriver was spotted out on a weekend walk in her leafy Brentwood neighborhood on Saturday showing her pride wearing a T-shirt which read ‘The future is female’. 

The journalist and author, 64, looked sport casual in the white shirt and dark leggings and covered up in a baseball cap.

When Katherine, 30, and Chris, 41, announced their happy news this week Maria, whose ex-husband is Arnold Schwarzenegger, left a sweet message on her daughter’s Instagram post.

‘So happy for you Lyla Maria is so blessed to have you both as parents you are going to be a amazing mama you already are !!!’

Meanwhile, Maria previously said she doesn’t want to be called ‘grandma’ and would much rather come up with her own adorable nickname for her granddaughter to use.

‘I’m not embracing that name exactly. I’m gonna come up with my own name. I’ll just be Mama. No, I can’t do that. I’ve got to do something else. I’ll think of it. I’ll figure it out.’

Although she’s not thrilled about being called ‘grandma’, Maria couldn’t be happier for her daughter and the Guardians of the Galaxy star. 

She added to Entertainment Tonight: ‘I’m really proud of her. Obviously, she and Chris are super happy. They’re a blessing to each other.’  

Katherine previously gushed of her parents, ‘I’m really lucky to be living in very close proximity to my family, which has been very helpful. And then, obviously, I have a very wonderful husband who’s very, it’s been amazing having him home. 

‘Also having people who I text constantly about everything baby because I’m learning as I go and it’s been an interesting time to be pregnant.’
