Gyles Brandreth delighted This Morning viewers after appearing on the show wearing a Christmas jumper. 

Today thunderstorms are moving across the country, after yesterday some parts of the UK experienced the longest stretch of temperatures above 34C since 1961 after London’s St James Park recorded 34.6C.

The presenter, 72, from West London, believes that if heat absorption is ‘partly psychological’, and thinking ‘winter thoughts’ has allowed him to cool down throughout the heatwave.  

Appearing on the show today to discuss the day’s headlines, he told that his method has kept him cool this week, prompting viewers to hail him ‘amazing’ and telling him to ‘never change’.

Host Rochelle Humes said: ‘Gyles, you’re the only person in a heatwave wearing one of your classic jumpers.’ 

‘This is one of my Christmas jumpers’, told Gyles. ‘The reason i’m wearing this is because I read that the absorption of heat is partly psychological, it’s partly in your head. 

‘If you think cool thoughts, you become cool. So I’m thinking winter weather and wearing all my Christmas jumpers and feeling cool I must say.’ 

Viewers quickly took to Twitter to comment on his attire, with one writing: ‘Giles wearing his Xmas jumper though. I love Giles he is amazing.’

He told that he ‘doesn’t believe in going away at the moment’ and is grateful the country has been blessed with ‘Mediterranean weather’, allowing Brits to camp out in their gardens.

‘I don’t believe in going away at the moment’, said Gyles, ‘gloriously, God bless her, has brought Mediterranean weather to the United Kingdom, so we can stay at home. 

‘I’ve not yet been to Camber Sands and I believe that’s where they made the great film Carry on up the Khyber. 

‘I would like to go to Camber Sands if I can go anywhere, if you’re lucky enough to have a garden put up a tent in the garden put up a tent and go on a holiday at home.’
