Dakota and Elle Fanning model contrasting summer looks as they head out for a day in the park

They are due to join forces on the silver screen in the upcoming war epic The Nightingale. 

And famous sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning looked lovely when they were spotted together in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, wearing deeply contrasting day looks as they walked through a park.

Dakota, 26, wore a long navy blue shirt dress that hung down to her mid-calf, and featured ruched shoulders and a frill at the hem.

The War Of The Worlds star left the bottom buttons undone to allow for a peek of thigh.

The elder Fanning sister complemented her look with white trainers and a monogrammed mask. 

She also sported silver bangles on her wrist, and a set of earrings.

Dakota shielded her eyes from the bright sunshine with octagonal tortoiseshell sunglasses.

She wore her hair up and parted at the middle.

Elle, meanwhile, was in brighter colors, wearing a summer-appropriate light yellow midi sundress that ended at her mid-thigh.

The Super 8 actress’s garment featured soft frilly short sleeves.

She paired the dress with a wide-brimmed straw panama hat, wearing her blond hair straight and long underneath it.

The Maleficent star completed her day look with brown strappy sandals, and she carried her face mask in her hand.

Until recently, Dakota had been mainly based in New York City, but has since relocated to Los Angeles where both her sister Elle as well as their mother Heather Joy Arrington reside.

Aside from a couple of isolated projects including the 2001 film I Am Sam, in which Elle portrayed a younger version of Dakota’s character, the thespian sisters have never worked on a film together.

The Nightingale, based on the novel of the same name by Kristin Hannah, will mark the first time Dakota and Elle will share the screen in a dramatic feature film, and they will portray sisters, to boot.

The film, to be directed by Inglourious Basterds actress Mélanie Laurent, follows a pair of sisters in wartime France as they frantically try to keep their lives from falling apart at the onset of World War II.

The film is currently listed as being in pre-production, and is expected, for now, on December 22nd, 2021.

Meanwhile, both sisters are also enjoying the continuation of their respective TV series.

Dakota’s second outing as Sara Howard in The Alienist is currently airing on TNT, with the second season bearing the sub-title Angel Of Darkness.

The period mystery/thriller series is based on the books The Alienist and The Angel Of Darkness by Caleb Carr.

And Elle just received the happy news that her period series The Great, following the life of young Catherine The Great, has been renewed for a second season on Hulu.
