New York City rapper Vado grabbed his girlfriend Tahiry Jose around the throat in a terrifying moment on Thursday’s episode of Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition.
In what show host Dr. Ish Major called ‘the biggest upset in MBC history,’ the 35-year-old rapper grew so incensed by his partner’s behavior, he resorted to violence.
Tahiry, 40, had just been explaining why the two of them had issues, saying that Vado ‘was enticing me to become that person that I don’t want to be anymore.’

Just moments before, she had hurled two apples at him in the kitchen, in front of everyone, after a shock therapy exercise left her frustrated and indignant.
‘And then I looked crazy to y’all,’ she said to the room, as Vado slowly turned his head toward her, looking confused. ‘I looked extra aggressive…’
Vado suddenly jumped on Tahiry and yanked the neck of her jacket tight around her throat, standing over her and holding it as the rest of the cast looked on in horror.
‘Yo, like for real, my f***ing hands on you, yo!’ he yelled at the former Love & Hip Hop star, who tried to appear unconcerned. ‘Like, you f***ing buggin’ out.’

‘Vado!’ Ish cried, running over and pulling him back. ‘No, no, no, no, no, no! Oh no, no, no!’
‘Are you serious?’ asked Hazel-E Baby, 40, looking at Vado. ‘Are you kidding me?’
‘Like, you lucky I don’t f***ing hurt you, yo,’ Vado spat at Tahiry as Ish walked him away. ‘She just threw that apple in my face for no f***ing reason. I’m going to County.’

As the show opened, Hazel-E and her boyfriend De’Von Waller, 30 were still arguing over their own beef from the night before.
De’Von, who’d been cautioned about his anger, had grabbed Hazel-E’s phone away from her during an argument on the previous episode.
‘I already know I have a temper and I clash back,’ he insisted. ‘I’m not really a violent person. I just defend myself when I need to.’

That morning, Hazel-E revealed that she might be pregnant, and was experiencing bleeding unrelated to the fight.
The show’s medics took her to the hospital to get checked out, and confirmed that her pregnancy was safe.
‘Whatever I was mad about, I literally, on everything I love, I dropped it,’ De’Von said. ‘Boom! It was about this now.’

While Hazel-E and De’Von were away, the other couples got their first challenge for the day.
They were all locked into their bedrooms and given one hour to escape, using clues provided by a series of question-and-answer cards.
In each couple, one person read out the questions—which had to do with their relationship—while the other person was blindfolded and directed to find the clues.

Under Ish’s watchful eye, many of the couples had communication breakdowns while working together.
Medina Islam was frustrated by girlfriend Phaedra’s complacency, as she barely tried to escape and instead fell back asleep.

She was horrified to learn that the answer was ’12.’
‘I would like to know who all 12 of these b****es are,’ Shanda said. ‘Maybe they can help you play the game.’

The couples finally realized that the code to their locked door was printed on the blindfold.
Ish then forced Willie to face his cheating issue, and the musician noted that it started when he got married, became a father, and went on tour.
‘I felt like the breath of fresh air was better on the outside than it was on the inside,’ he remembered, telling Shanda that he could have cheated more, which she didn’t like.

Ish put a positive spin on things, informing the woman, ‘What you need to do is get underneath the number and understand from him what he thinks was missing.’

For the day’s second challenge, the couples engaged in a little shock therapy.
Each partner wore an electrical bracelet controlled by the other partner, who could shock them whenever they engaged in disappointing behavior.

Ish hoped to show the couples what it looked like when they had a communication breakdown.
Tahiry looked on with amusement as Ish showed her the list of Vado’s bad behaviors, which included yelling, losing patience and snapping at her.
Vado’s no-no list for Tahiry included rolling her eyes, yelling and not listening, and he too could shock her throughout the night.

Participants were not allowed to tell their partners or anyone else what the bad behaviors were, which sparked a fight between Tahiry and Vado.
She accused her partner of shocking her for no reason, and he insisted he was holding back.
‘What the f*** am I doing here?’ Tahiry shouted at him, taking her electric bracelet off. ‘Wasting my motherf***ing time? Time is money, and you don’t pay the bills!’

Moments later, in the kitchen, Tahiry grew more incensed as Vado goaded her.
‘If you don’t shut the f*** up…’ she warned him, aware that he wanted to shock her. ‘Yeah, right now, you would have shocked me, I’m sure…. If I would have got shocked right now, I would have deserved it. But you know what wasn’t part of the list?’

She whipped two hard green apples at Vado from a kitchen bowl, hitting him squarely on the shoulder as the other couples flinched.
Ish then called everyone into a meeting room, where he enlightened couples about what their behaviors were and helped them make breakthroughs.
He got Phaedra to admit that she had given up on relationships after a bad divorce, and carried that forward to her life with Medina.

But when he got to Tahiry and Vado, things escalated, with Vado attacking his girlfriend.
In a preview of next week’s episode, Ish was shown reiterating the show’s no-violence policy, though it was not clear whether Vado would remain on the program.
