The Ethiopian Airlines cargo plane caught the fire at around 4pm local time today while parking on the tarmac of Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

The fire was put off about an hour later, said the local authorities. No injuries or deaths have been recorded.

An investigation into the cause of the incident is said to be underway.

Shocking footage shows smoke and flames pouring from the Boeing 777 while several emergency vehicles rushing towards the burning plane.

The aircraft was a cargo plane owned by Ethiopian Airlines, according to state news agency Xinhua.

It reportedly had arrived from Brussels just before midday and was scheduled to leave for Sao Paulo, Brazil, in the afternoon.

No injuries or deaths have been found in the incident, according to Shanghai Fire Brigade.

Eighteen fire trucks were called to the scene for rescue, said the local authorities. The fire was put off at about 5pm.

Local aviation authorities are said to have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, a spokesperson of the international carrier told Chinese media.

The news comes as Ethiopian Airlines has experienced a similar fire in 2013 while a Boeing-787 Dreamliner parking on the tarmac.

All runways were closed for nearly 90 minutes after the fire. No passengers were aboard the plane at the time, a Heathrow spokesman said.
