MasterChef judge Melissa Leong shows off her ‘sickeningly chic face mask’ and reveals it’s studded with Swarovski crystals

She emerged as a fashion icon on the latest season of MasterChef, and Melissa Leong is determined to quarantine in style, too.

In a post on Instagram on Tuesday, the 38-year-old MasterChef judge showed off her ‘sickeningly chic face mask’ ahead of Melbourne making face masks mandatory.

Sharing a close-up selfie of herself dressed in a blood orange turtleneck knit jumper, the stylish star accessorised with a black mask studded with Swarovski crystals.

‘This sickeningly chic face mask is Swarovski crystal studded for the gods, super comfortable… and it has a story,’ she captioned the photo.

She then explained the mask had been made by an old friend, fashion stylist Rian Difuntorum, also known as Aysha Buffet, explaining the story behind it. ⁣⁣

‘I met @ayshabuffet when she was a contestant on my first TV gig, The Chefs’ Line. Only she wasn’t yet a she,’ she began.

‘In the past three years, Rian has grown into the most fierce, unapologetically vulnerable and incredible woman: the one she always was. But now it’s time to seal the deal. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

‘She is making these gorgeous masks to raise money for her gender reassignment surgery, and I’m so very here for it.⁣⁣’

Melissa encouraged her followers to purchase one of Rian’s masks, ‘to help make a girl’s dream come true… because everyone deserves to live their truth out loud’.

In a separate post on Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Melissa revealed Rian had also sent face masks to her MasterChef colleagues, Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo.

Jock, 43, shared a photo of his plain black mask on Instagram Stories and wrote: ‘Ready for Wednesday’s mandatory face mask sitch in Melbourne’.

Wearing a face mask in public will be compulsory for people in Melbourne and nearby Mitchell Shire from 11.59pm on Wednesday, as both areas struggle to contain the latest coronavirus outbreak.
