Prior to meeting and marrying Caspar, Ellie dated the likes of Greg James, Dougie Poynter and Jeremy Irvine. It is not implied which ex she is singing about.

There were also rumoured relationships with Ed Sheeran and even Prince Harry.

Ellie also has cryptic lyrics on her new track, Bleach, where she sings ‘I tried to fix your heart’ and ‘you just loved to lie’.

This is the star’s first new album in five years and her last release was Delirium in 2015.

Talking about Brightest Blue, which is released on Friday, Ellie told Entertainment Weekly: ‘There’s a couple of songs where I’m still talking about finding that perfect person and being disillusioned by love — that’s still my favourite kind of writing.

‘I love writing about heartbreak; any kind of injustice that happens in love and between two people is always interesting to me.

‘All these songs were part of this discovery of myself, learning to love myself a bit more, respect myself and not need anyone else. I think that was really important to me.’

It comes after Ellie admitted that she loves living apart from her art dealer husband Caspar.

The couple have been happily married since tying the knot 11 months ago, and had been spending lockdown together isolating in Oxfordshire.

However, their living situation recently changed as The Mirror reports that Ellie moved to London while Caspar, 28, completes his Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) at Oxford University.

Despite being separated from her partner, Ellie insisted that she ‘loves’ being in her own company, as she stated the benefits of their current long-distance situation.

Ellie told the publication: ‘No I love it! I love my husband – but I also love myself.

‘I can read a book. I can go for a run, I can eat messily. So it’s really great that you can have a partner that you don’t have to be with 24/7 – even when you’re married.’

Ellie, who celebrates her first wedding anniversary with Caspar on August 31, also opened up on her husband’s romantic side.

She added: ‘He built me a cover for my cat litter tray. And he always buys me flowers. I was driving down the motorway in my electric car and I found a little rose in the glovebox.’

Ellie’s long-distance marriage comes after she recently admitted she’s not ready to have children yet with Caspar.

In a new interview, the singer declared growing a family is ‘not the be all and end all’ as she focuses on picking her career back up once the coronavirus pandemic improves.

The How Long Will I Love you hitmaker, who tied the knot at York Minster last year, said: ‘I want to have kids but it’s not the be all and end all. I am so happy right now and I want to have kids later but it’s not encouraged to wait.’

The media personality also revealed she’d be open to starting a podcast about work-driven women who want to become mothers in later stages of their lives.

Ellie told The Sun: ‘There are a lot of blogs, podcasts and things about being a mum or about a mum’s life, which I totally appreciate because it must be good to know you are in the same position as other mums. I want to know about women who are in the same spot as me.

‘I’ve got a career and, when coronavirus is over, I will embark on touring. It would be good to have like-minded women who are in the same position and want kids later in life or not at all. I’d love to hear a podcast on that — maybe I’ll start my own.’

Ellie, who appeared on the cover of Glamour UK’s May digital issue, said she and Caspar never argue and discuss their issues openly.

She told the magazine: ‘When I think about my marriage, it’s a perfect example of it because it’s so mature, we talk things through, and we never argue.

‘If we have differences, we talk them out, we don’t just say: ‘Well, I’m right and you’re wrong and we’ll just agree to differ. We talk about why we might disagree on something.’

The singer spoke out on her chequered love life during her appearance on fellow chart star Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast.

Speaking about their first meeting in 2016, Ellie admitted ‘it wasn’t love at first sight’ as the couple struggled to find any common ground.

Ellie revealed she met art dealer Caspar at a dinner thrown for her by a friend following her Jingle Bell Ball performance in late 2016.

The couple got engaged in 2017 after Caspar proposed while the couple were doing a puzzle at home, before they married in a lavish ceremony at York Minster in August 2019.
