Bachelor in Paradise: Niranga Amarasinghe given little airtime

‘Has anyone counted how many words he’s said so far?’ Fans are outraged as Niranga Amarasinghe gets barely any air time on Bachelor in Paradise

Niranga Amarasinghe is one of six male contestants looking for love on the latest season of Channel Ten’s Bachelor in Paradise.

And fans were quick to point out that the 28-year-old aircraft engineer has had barely any screen time on the series thus far.

On Thursday night’s episode, Niranga’s screen time was brief to say the least – one minute he was chatting to some of the other gents, the next he was calling out Mary Viturino’s name at the rose ceremony.

‘Has anyone counted how many words Niranga has said on screen so far? I think he might have maybe said one sentence,’ one fan said.

Another joked: ‘Worst #BachelorInParadiseAU drinking game ever: take a shot every time Niranga gets a confessional.’

‘Niranga not getting any screen time is the R-WORD,’ a third declared, possibly suggesting the R-word was racism.

‘I’d much rather it just be a show of white people and their caucasity. Don’t bother with Mary and Niranga if they’re just going to be a piece of the furniture,’ another agreed.

‘Who is Niranga going to give his rose to? Who does he like?’ Another asked, before adding: ‘Oh wait we don’t know because WE HAVE BARELY HEARD HIM SPEAK!’

One Twitter user asked: ‘Every girl struggling for a rose… Have you met Niranga?’

‘I get that everyone has different tastes but how are none of them going for Niranga’s rose? JUSTICE FOR NIRANGA,’ said another.

On Thursday night, the Brisbane-based reality star seemed to subtly reference the show’s lack of racial diversity to his 2,978 Instagram followers.

In a promotional picture of the male contestants standing behind the women they gave a rose to, it was evident he and Mary Virturino were the only people of colour on the show.

‘People say one picture speaks a thousand words. This picture speaks an infinity,’ Niranga cryptically wrote.

Niranga first appeared on Angie Kent’s season of the Bachelorette.

Bachelor in Paradise continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Ten
