Splendour in the Grass 2021 announces a NEW headliner

Splendour in the Grass announces a NEW headliner after postponing this year’s festival due to the coronavirus pandemic

Splendour in the Grass was meant to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, before it was postponed until July 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And if the music festival goes ahead as planned in July, it will now feature an exciting new headliner: Gorillaz.

Splendour in the Grass is scheduled to take place from Friday, July 23 to Sunday, July 26 at North Byron Parklands.

It was announced earlier this year that American rapper Tyler, The Creator, indie rock band The Strokes and Australian DJ Flume would be headlining the festival.

But on Monday, organisers confirmed that Flume was unable to make the rescheduled 2021 dates and Gorillaz would be replacing him as headliner.

At this time, Tyler, The Creator and The Strokes are still expected to perform.

Other confirmed acts include the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, King Krule and Dillon Francis.

Splendour co-producers Jess Ducrou and Paul Piticco said in a statement in June that they ‘intend to rebook as many of the 2020 artists as possible’.

But it is yet to be confirmed if all of the previously announced acts will be returning for the new dates.

Marking its 20th anniversary in 2021, Splendour in the Grass is considered one of Australia’s largest and most popular music events.

The festival launched in July 2001 as a one-day festival. It evolved into a two-day event in 2002 and graduated to its three-day format in 2009.
