Do you know the REAL name of Daryl Braithwaite’s biggest hit?

His classic song is often considered a substitute national anthem, but do you know the REAL name of Daryl Braithwaite’s biggest hit?

It’s the song that Australians love to sing with gusto at the drop of a hat.

But according to singer Daryl Braithwaite, everyone thinks they know what it’s called, but few actually do.

On Sunday, the 71-year-old rocker cleared things up on The Project, after being quizzed by host Tommy Little.

‘Can I confirm something? Tommy began. ‘Your song is called The Horses!’

‘Oh, yeah,’ replied Daryl. ‘The Horses, not Horses!’

‘I’ve seen you perform when I’ve been drunk so many times and I’ve heard people yelling out,”play Horses”,’ continued Tommy, before adding: ‘No one has ever yelled out once, “Play The Horses!”‘

‘Victorians are very good. They yell out The Horses. NSW people, not sure,’ he joked.

True confessions: 'I've seen you perform when I've been drunk so many times and I've heard people yelling out, "play Horses",' continued Tommy, before adding: 'No one has ever yelled out once, "Play The Horses!"'

This comes after the Australian music legend admitted that his new single Love Songs was originally meant for US singer Pink.

Speaking to Adelaide Now on Saturday, the 71-year-old rocker explained that he initially passed on the song and offered it to Pink’s manager Roger Davies for consideration, but the deal never went through.

‘I was sending it on as a favour to someone so I do have to thank Roger for passing on it and thinking it wouldn’t be suitable for Alecia [Pink] because she is on a break from recording,’ he revealed.

Roger – who previously managed the band Sherbet – suggested that Love Songs would actually be a perfect tune for Daryl to sing.

Love Songs is Daryl’s first release since his 2017 mini-album Forever The Tourist.

The song was written by Australian songwriter Michael Fatkin and Los Angeles-based writers Rozzi Crane and Charlie Synder.

Back in February, Daryl delighted fans when he performed his track The Horses at bushfire charity concert, Fire Fight 2020

The sellout crowd joined in on the chorus, which has since become Australia’s unofficial national anthem.

The singer was inducted into the ARIA Awards Hall Of Fame in 2017.
