Zac Efron ‘inquires about buying the Byron Bay home he’s been staying in’

Hollywood star Zac Efron is rumoured to have spent the past few months lying low in Byron Bay, on the New South Wales coast.

And according to The Sunday Telegraph, the 32-year-old actor has fallen so deeply in love with the area that he’s now considering purchasing the home in which he’s been staying.

The High School Musical star has reportedly made an inquiry about buying the Byron Beach Retreats property, named The Boardwalk.

The beachfront property is located in the coastal suburb Broken Head – a very close town to Byron Bay and a seven-minute drive from the Byron centre.

The lavish property has private beach access, a 12-metre magnesium pool and spa as well as boardwalks with tropical gardens.

The luxurious home also has five bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms and huge bi-fold doors that open the kitchen and lounge pavilions on to decks.

It comes amid unconfirmed rumours Zac has spent the past few months lying low in Byron Bay.

The actor is said to be quietly living in the beachside town to escape the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.

There have been several reported ‘sightings’ of Zac at cafés and restaurants in Byron Bay, but no photographic evidence has surfaced as of yet.

‘My sister just told me that Zac Efron is Byron Bay,’ one fan tweeted last week.

Social media influencer Tarsha Whitmore claimed on Thursday that she had seen the High School Musical star at Byron Bay’s General Store café.

‘Don’t mean to alarm anyone but Zac Efron was literally eating at the same cafe as me when this was taken,’ she wrote.

The reported sightings come as the Baywatch star continues his low-key romance with actress Halston Sage, 26, who also doesn’t disclose her whereabouts on social media.

Zac was last pictured in his hometown of Los Angeles on January 25.

In April, his former High School Musical co-stars all reunited via video link to sing a rendition of We’re All in This Together.

However, Zac raised eyebrows when it was revealed he wouldn’t be a part of the singalong due to a ‘bad Wi-Fi’ connection – fuelling speculation he was living somewhere remote.

The California native is known to jump at the opportunity to fly Down Under, whether it’s for work or a secret surfing holiday.

In December, Zac was flown to Brisbane for urgent medical attention after being struck down with a serious infection while filming a TV show in Papua New Guinea.

‘I did get sick in Papua New Guinea, but I bounced back quick and finished an amazing three weeks in PNG,’ he later told his Instagram followers.

Zac previously said it was ‘easy’ keeping a low profile during his visits to Australia because of the sparsely-populated beaches down the coast.

‘What I love about Australia, which is what we don’t have in California, is there are so many wide-open beaches where no one is at,’ he said.
