So You Think You Can Dance? Season 17 has been scrapped due to the coronavirus

Fox’s hit summer reality series So You Think You Can Dance? will not be dancing at all this summer.

The network announced Thursday they have decided to scrap the 17th season of So You Can Think You Dance? according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show had been renewed for a 17th season in February and production was already under way when filming was scrapped in March due to the spread of COVID-19.

‘Production on Season 17 of So You Think You Can Dance will not be moving forward due to health and governmental restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,’ Fox said in a statement Thursday.

‘As a result, while we were looking forward to its return this summer, we cannot meet the standards we’ve set for viewers and contestants in light of the show’s unique format, intricate production schedule and limited time,’ the statement concluded.

The show films in Los Angeles, where film and television productions were cleared to resume filming, but many of the guilds are still working out safety protocols.

Fox had recently unveiled its 2020 fall TV schedule, which was primarily comprised of shows it had acquired from other networks like Spectrum’s LA’s Finest.

The Masked Singer is expected to return in the fall, but amid the pandemic, there is no clear solution yet as to how it may be able to return.

Other narrative programs like 9-1-1, The Resident, Last Man Standing and other shows, are slated to return in early 2021, meaning So You Think You Can Dance? may not return until next summer.
