Orlando Bloom embarks on a quest for revenge after being haunted by the ghosts of his past in first trailer for reverent thriller Retaliation

The film industry has been thrown into disarray by the coronavirus pandemic.

But Orlando Bloom will still be returning to screens next month, as he takes centre stage in the first trailer for his heart-stopping reverent thriller Retaliation.

The actor, 43, plays a haunted demolition worker who embarks on a quest for revenge involving his former church, following a disturbing incident from his childhood.

Dark: Orlando Bloom will be returning to screens next month, as he takes centre stage in the first trailer for his heart-stopping reverent thriller Retaliation

The trailer shows Orlando’s character Malky undertaking some construction work at a church, clearly unnerved by the crucifix looming over him.

A woman that appears to be his mother states: ‘You judge me, judging is a sin!’ sparking a violent reaction from Malky.

The trailer goes onto hint that Malky remains scarred by an incident at his church – which appears to be in London – as a passing woman says: ‘Didn’t you go to church here too?’

Malky then visits a confessional booth, and admits: ‘I’ve hurt someone severely’ following glimpses of him symbolically drilling holes into the hands in a statue of the crucified Jesus Christ.

Asked why he’s come to confession, Malky darkly states: ‘For revenge,’ before admitting to his mother he visited her church.

The trailer launches into a montage of shots including a priest blowing out candles and Malky being handed a hammer for his sinister plan.

As ever his motives begin to alienate the woman he loves as she worriedly admits: ‘You look like you but you’re not you.’

Towards the end of the preview it seems that Malky reveals his revenge plan may stem from some incident during his childhood, as he says: ‘Remember when I was 12 mum? You said ”you’re not right, I can see it in your face your face is Thai!”’

Retaliation’s synopsis states that Orlando’s character begins a quest for revenge after seeing a figure from his past who is responsible for an incident in his childhood.
