Wiggles Emma Watkins and former husband Lachlan Gillespie self isolated together during COVID-19

Why The Wiggles Emma Watkins made the unusual decision to self-isolate with her ex husband Lachlan Gillespie during the COVID-19 outbreak

They fell in love just weeks after joining children’s group The Wiggles in 2013, but their fairy tale romance ended in divorce five years later.

Yet despite their split, Emma Watkins, 30, and Lachlan Gillespie, 34, made the unusual decision to isolate together during the coronavirus pandemic.

Emma told the Australian Women’s Weekly that she and Lachlan joined bandmates Anthony Field and Simon Pryce during the health crisis so they could continue to record at their Sydney studio.

That’s unusual! The Wiggles Emma Watson explained to The Australian Women’s Weekly this month that she decided to self-isolate with former husband Lachlan Gillespie during the COVID-19 outbreak so the group could continue to record at their Sydney studio (both pictured)

The red-headed stunner explained the quartet felt a responsibility to continue working to help ‘alleviate the fears of children and parents’ at this unusual time.

‘Parents are juggling being a teacher, a chef and a parent,’ she said.

‘Around the world, we have parents asking “Please make more content!” and it makes you think we’re responsible for providing entertainment at the moment so we’ll just keep going,’ she added.

Despite having to cancel their worldwide Fun And Games Tour in March, the group have been hard at work putting together new songs about handwashing and social distancing.

Emma and Lachlan both joined The Wiggles in 2013 and began dating just weeks later.

However, they kept their romance secret for the next two years as they performed all around the world.

In March 2015, the couple went public with their relationship and became engaged just two months later.

Emma and Lachlan fuelled rumours that they were starting a family in 2017, saying that their future child would be incorporated into The Wiggles concerts.

‘I think we’d have to get it [the baby] up on stage. I will be playing the drums and then pushing a rocker and dancing, but somehow it will have to be incorporated into the show,’ Emma told The Sydney Morning Herald June that year.

However, the pair revealed their bombshell split in a joint statement a year later.

The pair have remained amicable since their breakup and continue to work together.

Meanwhile, both have moved on to find happiness with partners.

Lachlan announced his engagement to Dana Stephenson, a principal dancer with the Australian Ballet Company in April.

Emma has also found love with Wiggles musician Oliver Brian.
