Lily James inks deals to star in thriller The Paris Trap and crime drama Peggy Jo, cementing her leading lady status

She found fame as Lady Rose on Downton Abbey and has gone to star in box office hits Cinderella, Baby Driver, Darkest Hour and Mama Mia! Here We Go Again.

And now Lily James has inked deals to play the lead in two upcoming films, both of which will be offered to buyers at the upcoming virtual Cannes Market according to Deadline.com.

In The Paris Trap, the in demand English actress will play a victim of mistaken identity  while in Peggy Jo, she’ll star as a real-life bank robber who carried out her crimes dressed as a man.

Lily, 31, will team with acclaimed Argentinian director Pablo Trapero for The Paris Trap which is described as a ‘Hitchcockian thriller.’

Her character is a young American woman who gets caught up in a secret government operation while on a trip to Paris.

She must go along with events in order to save her life while at the same time trying to navigate her way out of the ‘trap’ with the help of her handler, 

The movie is slated to begin production in Paris early in 2021.

For Peggy Jo, Lily is partnering with Australian director Philip Noyce, famous for such films as Dead Calm, Patriot Games, The Saint, The Quiet American and Salt.  

The crime drama is set to film on location in the United States. 

She will next be seen, though, on the small screen in an adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s Rebecca for Netflix.

Armie Hammer stars as her husband Maxim De Winter with Kristin Scott Thomas as housekeeper Mrs. Danvers in the movie set for release some time this year.
