Shocking moment ram raiders use a pick-up truck to smash open cash machine at Co-Op store

Two ram raiders were filmed using a pick-up truck to smash open a cash machine at a Co-Op store in dramatic footage. 

Police today said two men – aged 26 and 31 – had been arrested after reports of an armed robbery at the shop in Warrington, Cheshire, at 9.10pm last night.

Video filmed by a passerby shows two hooded raiders using a red rope attached to a black pick-up truck to pull the cash machine apart.

As the truck pulls forward, parts of the machine can be seen skidding across the floor of the store amid the sound of crashing metal and smashing glass.

One of the thieves, masked and wearing black, runs inside and picks up what appears to be cash box from inside the machine.

A second thief, in a grey hoodie, is seen unhooking the rope and slipping as they run back to the vehicle.

The man filming the incident is heard yelling: ‘Ring the police. All that for a little box.’

Both men get back into the truck which then races off round the corner with its tailgate left hanging open.

Cheshire Police said: ‘At 9.10pm on Monday 15 June police received a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store on Orford Lane. 

‘Offenders attacked the cash machine then left the scene in a car.

‘A black seat-Leon was abandoned on Ditton Road at the junction with Hale Road. 

‘Two men, aged 26 and 31, were located in Widnes a short time later and have been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and remain in police custody.

‘A 23-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and she is in custody.’

Co-Op have declined to comment.

The shocking video was uploaded to Facebook by Hayley Wright who said: ‘No shame whatsoever.’

Other people responding to her post suggested the raiders’ efforts had been in vain as the cash machine had been empty.

Sarah Giblin, who claims to work at the Co-op store, commented under the video saying that the stolen box had been empty.

She said: ‘There was no one in the store thankfully. But the cash machine is empty so they’ve wasted their time. Hope it was worth robbing a store for no money.

‘I know this because I put the sign on when it died on Saturday.’

Chelsea Cooper likened the near-slip one of the thieves took to the Chuckle Brothers.

Oli Potts said: ‘Our cashless society has got to be killing these guys’ careers. I feel for them. All that for probably less than 200 quid.’
