A man was being held on suspicion of murder on Tuesday after a fight with a woman in a quiet residential street.

Local people heard shouting and swearing and a man yelling: ‘My wife’ after the woman was fatally injured.

Police were called at twenty past six on Monday night to reports of trouble in Russell Street, Kettering.

Paramedics from the East Midlands Ambulance Service pronounced the 37-year-old woman dead at the scene. Residents heard she died from a stab wound with a post mortem examination to be carried out later.

The road was cordoned off today with a large blue police tent outside a modern terraced home.

A local resident said: ‘There was tall white bloke shouting ‘My wife’. I thought at firsts they might be East European, but they sounded English.

‘There was lots of swearing and some sort of fight. It started down the road and ended up outside these new houses.’

Another man said: ‘The police have told us there was nothing to worry about. It was some sort of domestic argument that went wrong.’

One woman said: ‘There was a lot of shouting and swearing in the street.’ 

Northamptonshire police said: ‘ A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a 37-year-old woman.

‘Northamptonshire Police were called to Russell Street, Kettering, at about 6.20pm this evening [Monday] following reports of disorder.

‘The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

‘A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
